The BMW 5 Series GT was supposedly a car designed without compromise -- to offer the space of a 7 Series but the dynamics of a 5 Series. However, in reality, the cumbersome BMW doesn't drive very well and has a smaller boot than the 5 Series saloon. From the back seats, though, it offers unrivalled comfort and a commanding view of the road -- and if you opt for the four-seat Executive package, you get a pair of reclining rear seats allowing ultimate comfort on longer journeys. Looks divide opinion, and even in sporty M Sport trim the boxy dimensions and high roofline look awkward. Avoid the large petrol motors, though, and the 5 GT should be relatively affordable to run."
